I knew this day was coming around, but I didn’t know it would turn out to be somewhat fun. About over a month ago, dad had scheduled me a veterinary appointment to make sure I was up-to-date on my vaccinations; because someone apparently forgot to keep up with my initial vaccinations when I was much younger (therefore, I was technically considered an Anti-vaxxer. Not by choice mind you). But dad had to schedule the appointment a month in-advance because there was an in-flux of appointment scheduling and low staff at the local veterinary clinic. Perhaps, this is something our area might need to look into and figure out why there’s only a few vet clinics in the surrounding area; like, us animals need medical attention too. But it is what it is at this point.

The appointment was scheduled at 4:00pm. So, most of the day was pretty routine. I woke up and dad made me breakfast at around 6:00am. I just do not know how he does it; he makes these really small kibble food that taste like chicken! I can eat it all day-every day. Sometimes he tries to give me other types of kibble food, but it just doesn’t taste the same. Oh! And when he adds goat milk (occasionally) to the kibble; wow!!!! But anyways, food is always something dad makes for me. And after breakfast, I went around the yard and looked at various items and made sure none of them moved (they didn’t. And it would be absurd if things moved on my watch!). And then I slept most of the day.

I figured we would leave around 3:30pm for the appointment, but dad started getting my stuff ready just before 2:00pm. I wasn’t sure why, but I was excited nonetheless. It is always THE BEST moments when it’s just me and dad traveling in the car. See, his radio is broken and he often drives with one Earpod in one ear so that he can listen to music while driving. He is not the best singer and often mumbles the lyrics, but I don’t care. I always have the biggest smile when it’s just the two of us.

As we enter into town, we drive right pass the veterinary clinic. I was shocked! Well, not really because I also enjoy watching all the cars we drive past while on the road. There’s just so many different types of cars! red ones, blue ones, green ones, etc. But let’s just say I was indeed shocked. Anyways, we arrive at Gallup Happy Paws and as always I’m just super excited to go anywhere. And everything about this grooming place is just awesome! Dad said I needed to get cleaned up because we are going on a big trip soon and I shouldn’t be smelling or looking scruffy. And he was right, because afterwards I got so many compliments! But that was mostly when I arrived at the vet clinic. Who knew I was so handsome.

While dad was washing me, he sparked up a conversation with the other person next to us. Dad has been more social lately and talking with other strangers. It’s pretty neat to see him branch out and listen to the stories of other humans. Well anyways, this person was an older gentleman who trains therapy dogs. He currently has successfully trained 12 respectful and gentle dogs. And he goes all over the state helping out other people who need their services. Which is really cool! And at the moment, the gentleman was cleaning a terrier dog. I think he said his name was “McGruff”. Cool fella. The man had explained that McGruff had physical touch issues. And that he was abandoned and mistreated before being adopted. So he has a difficulty interacting with other dogs and humans. But it was so nice to see the gentleman carefully and delicately tend with gentleness to the terrier. Every dog deserves to be loved with kindness and respect. So, I’m glad this human was able to adopt this terrier. McGruff appeared to be really happy being with this gentleman.

Dad was kinda rushing to clean me. I think he miscalculated the time he needed to wash me. But it was okay, because I get really anxious with loud noises. And the grooming place has this air drying machine that scares me. I was super relieved when dad decided to towel dry me and not use the air drying machine. He’s the best! So, dad paid the business and we left for my vet appointment. We waited for a while. But in the meantime, I received so many compliments! Everyone seemed to really like me. They said I was “cute”, “handsome”, and “pretty”. Someone even complimented on how clean my teeth were. And someone else said I was a really “good dog” (best compliment ever). Amongst the recognition, dad sparked up another conversation again! This time with an older lady. She was waiting for her cat. But the lady really liked me. She said I looked a little big, but still admired me. Dad told her about mom, and she talked about her former dog as well. And then her cat came out from surgery. She then talked about all her other cats and their personalities. Dad shared about Cassie. Then they both exchanged photos of their cats. The lady said Cassie was absolutely beautiful. And then she left. Dad is just on a roll today. Making conversations everywhere!

Well, we waited a little bit longer and then the vet doctor called us. She was super nice! She looked a little tired. Probably because it was the end of the work day and there was probably a lot of appointments. But she just adored me! She said I was overweight by 20 pounds, but that’s okay because dad says I’m just husky. Which makes no sense, because I always thought I was a Labrador and Heeler mix. But everything seemed good. I got my shots and was good to go! It was a long but fun day. And I got to spend the entire evening with dad. And then he fed me again when we got back home! I mean, he feeds me every evening, but it’s just awesome whenever he brings me food!
